Jingyuan gravel-mulched watermelon:
As a China National Geographical Indication product, Jingyuan’s gravel-mulched watermelons thrive in the Loess Plateau’s arid zones, where a 300-year-old cultivation system uses layers of river pebbles and sand to create a microclimate. This traditional method retains 60% more moisture than bare soil, amplifies 15-20℃ diurnal temperature swings, and filters mineral-rich Yellow River tributary water, yielding melons with unique traits:

Dynamic Sweetness: Harvested at 9.5-11.5°Brix, they develop into 10.5-13.5°Brix sandy-textured gems after 10-15 days, balancing crisp freshness with honeyed depth.
Nutritional Edge: Naturally selenium-enriched (0.01-0.05mg/kg) and packed with vitamins, their oval fruits (3.5-12kg) feature resilient green-striped rinds, ideal for 6-month storage and low-loss transport.
Ecological Wisdom: Grown across 25,933 hectares in Beitan, Wuhe, and Gaowan, the gravel mulch reduces water use by 2/3 while suppressing salinity, embodying sustainable dryland agriculture.

Awarded "National A-level Green Food," these melons blend Silk Road heritage with modern farming, offering a taste of northwest China’s harsh beauty—crisp, sweet, and timeless.
